Serbia offers two primary categories of visas for foreign nationals: the Short-Stay Visa (Type C) and the Long-Stay Visa (Type D). These visas are designed to accommodate both short-term visits and longer stays for purposes such as work, study, or family reunification. Here’s a closer look at each type and what they entail.

Short-Stay Visa (Type C)

The Type C visa is intended for short visits to Serbia, allowing foreign nationals to stay for up to 90 days within a 180-day period. It is suitable for various non-permanent purposes and is commonly issued for:

  • Tourism – Visiting Serbia for sightseeing and leisure.

  • Business – Attending meetings, conferences, or corporate events.

  • Family Visits – Visiting relatives or friends residing in Serbia.

  • Cultural and Sports Events – Participation in or attendance at festivals, exhibitions, or sporting competitions.

  • Medical Visits – Seeking short-term medical treatment or consultations.

Application Requirements:
To apply for a Type C visa, applicants typically need:

  • A completed visa application form

  • A valid passport

  • Recent passport-sized photo

  • Invitation letter (if applicable)

  • Proof of travel insurance

  • Evidence of sufficient financial means

  • Proof of accommodation

  • Visa fee payment receipt

Long-Stay Visa (Type D)

The Type D visa is issued to individuals intending to stay in Serbia for more than 90 days, but usually no longer than 180 days on a single entry. This visa is required before applying for temporary residence in Serbia.

Common Purposes for a Type D Visa:

  • Employment – For individuals with a job offer or employment contract with a Serbian company.

  • Education – For international students accepted into Serbian universities or educational institutions.

  • Family Reunification – For joining family members who are legal residents or citizens of Serbia.

  • Other Long-Term Purposes – Such as internships, voluntary service, or religious work.

Application Requirements:
To obtain a Type D visa, applicants must provide:

  • A completed visa application form

  • A valid passport

  • A recent photo

  • Documentation proving the purpose of stay (e.g., job contract, acceptance letter from an educational institution, or marriage certificate)

  • Proof of financial support and accommodation

  • Visa fee payment receipt

Whether you're visiting Serbia for a short vacation or planning a longer stay for work or study, the country’s visa system provides clear and structured pathways. The Type C visa is best for short visits, while the Type D visa opens the door to extended stays and eventual residence. Applicants should ensure they meet all documentation requirements and allow sufficient time for processing when planning their journey to Serbia.
