If you're planning to visit or stay in Lithuania, understanding the different visa types is essential. Depending on your purpose and duration of stay, you may need a Schengen visa or a national visa (D). Here's a breakdown of these visa categories and the application process.

Schengen Visa

The Schengen visa allows travelers to enter and stay in Lithuania and other Schengen countries for a short period. It is divided into two main types:

  • Airport Transit Visa (A) – This visa is required for travelers transiting through the international transit areas of airports in Schengen Member States. It does not permit entry into the Schengen area beyond the airport.
  • Short-Stay Visa (C) – This visa is issued for stays of up to 90 days within a 180-day period. It allows visitors to travel within the Schengen area for tourism, business, or family visits.

To apply for a Schengen visa, applicants must fill out the visa application form online at www.migracija.lt/en/. The process requires selecting nationality, choosing the Schengen visa application form, and creating a login to complete the application.

National Visa (D)

The national visa (D) is intended for individuals planning to stay in Lithuania for an extended period. It is issued for stays of at least 91 days and up to 12 months. This visa is suitable for purposes such as work, study, or family reunification.

Holders of a national visa (D) can legally enter Lithuania and remain in the country for the duration specified in their visa.

Whether you're visiting Lithuania for a short trip or planning a long-term stay, it's crucial to apply for the correct visa type. Make sure to check the requirements and apply through the official migration website to ensure a smooth process.
