Malta may be small in size, but it offers a rich and vibrant lifestyle packed with activities and experiences. Known for its thriving tourism industry, the island boasts a lively nightlife, a dynamic cultural scene, and an array of outdoor adventures. Whether you enjoy playing tennis or golf, or prefer more daring pursuits like paragliding and snorkelling, living in Malta promises to be anything but dull.

Weather in Malta: Warm and Welcoming All Year Round

Malta enjoys a Mediterranean climate, similar to southern Italy and Greece, making it a major draw for tourists and expatriates alike. Summers are hot and dry, with temperatures often exceeding 30°C (86°F), particularly between June and September. Winters are mild, with average temperatures rarely dropping below 15°C (59°F), even from December to March. This pleasant weather makes outdoor activities and beach outings possible throughout most of the year.

Maltese Cuisine: A Taste of the Mediterranean

Maltese food reflects the island’s Mediterranean roots, with a strong resemblance to the cuisine of nearby Sicily. Fresh fruit, vegetables, pasta, and seafood play a prominent role in local dishes. Traditional Maltese specialties include rabbit stew, fish pie, and bragioli (beef stuffed with minced meat and herbs). For lighter bites, popular snacks include pastizzi (flaky pastries filled with ricotta or peas) and ħobż biż-żejt (sourdough bread topped with tomatoes, olive oil, and a variety of local ingredients). Additionally, Malta offers a diverse range of restaurants featuring international cuisine.

Accommodation Options: From Campus to Cozy Homes

Students studying at one of Malta’s public universities have several accommodation options. The Malta University Residence, located in the town of Lija, offers convenient housing just 4 km from the main University of Malta campus. The residence provides direct transport to the university and features amenities such as a private swimming pool. Alternatively, students can opt for private apartment rentals or homestays with local families. Each university’s international office and student support services can assist in finding suitable accommodation.

Living in Malta offers a perfect blend of relaxation, adventure, and cultural immersion. With its warm climate, delicious cuisine, and variety of leisure activities, the island is an enticing destination for students, expatriates, and anyone seeking a Mediterranean lifestyle.
