If you're planning to stay in Croatia for an extended period, obtaining a Temporary Residence Card (TRC) is essential. This card allows foreign nationals to reside in Croatia legally for purposes such as work, study, or family reunification. Here’s a clear guide to the process.

1. Choose Your Basis for Temporary Residence

You must have a valid reason to apply for a TRC, such as:

  • Employment: Requires a job offer and a work permit.

  • Study: Requires proof of enrollment and financial means.

  • Family Reunification: Requires documents proving your relationship to a Croatian citizen or resident.

  • Other Purposes: Includes humanitarian reasons, starting a business, or other legitimate grounds.

2. Prepare Your Documentation

The following documents are typically required:

  • Valid Passport: With at least one year of remaining validity.

  • Health Insurance Proof: Showing coverage in Croatia.

  • Proof of Financial Means: Evidence that you can support yourself.

  • Proof of Purpose: Depending on your reason for stay (e.g., employment contract, enrollment letter, or family documents).

  • Criminal Record Certificate: From your home country and any other country where you have lived for more than a year.

  • Other Documents: Such as a marriage certificate, birth certificate, or proof of accommodation, as needed.

3. Submit Your Application

You can apply in two ways:

  • From Abroad: Submit your application at a Croatian embassy or consulate.

  • Within Croatia: If you are already in Croatia or can enter visa-free, apply at the police station in your place of residence.

4. Pay the Fees

An administrative fee is required to process your application. Payment details are provided by the authority handling your application.

To obtain a TRC in Croatia, ensure you have a valid reason for your stay, prepare the necessary documents, and submit your application through the appropriate channel. With the correct preparation, you can secure your residence and enjoy your time in Croatia legally and smoothly.
